Which places are doing innovative things to ensure transportation is accessible to more people?
Some resources to consider:
Municipalities that are pushing and advocating for more public spaces, and more micro-mobility-safe uses of the curb. The City of Boston, for instance, eased and sped-up its permit process for parking spaces during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This way, restaurants and cafes were able to apply for parklets or curb patios. This has led to safer streets that are not just for vehicular use.
The California Integrated Travel Project (Cal-ITP) will be a statewide solution to make travel simpler and cost-effective for all Californians. Cal-ITP will improve the customer experience by integrating transit fare collection, verifying eligibility for fare discounts, and providing up-to-date vehicle arrival information across the hundreds of transit providers in California. The initiative is intended to lower costs for transit providers and riders, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote equitable access to transportation across the state’s transit providers — all while increasing transit ridership.
